Emoji & Unicode Versions

📘 Unicode Versions

Unicode versions represent the core character standard. Early emojis were introduced as basic symbols in early Unicode versions before colored emojis existed.

🎨 Emoji Versions

Emoji versions are maintained by the Unicode Consortium specifically for emojis. Emoji 1.0 grouped all existing symbols into the first official emoji standard.

What's the difference?

Why are there two lists?
Before 2018, the Unicode Standard and the Emoji Standard operated on different version numbers. For example, Emoji 5.0 was released alongside Unicode 10.0. Since 2018 (version 11.0), the version numbers have been synchronized to avoid confusion.
